99mTc-Tektrotyd - peptide based pharmaceutical kit for isotope diagnostics in oncology, the invention presented by the Institute of Atomic Energy POLATOM Radioisotope Centre, has been awarded the Gold Medal and Diploma of the BRUSSELS EUREKA! at the Belgian and International Trade Fair for Technological Innovation „Brussels Innova 2009” which was held in Brussels, Belgium, 19-21 October 2009. The authors of the invention of 99mTc-Tektrotyd - peptide based pharmaceutical kit for isotope diagnostics in oncology, the team of the Institute of Atomic Energy POLATOM Radioisotope Centre, Dr inż Renata Mikolajczak, mgr Barbara Janota and mgr Alina Markiewicz, have been given the Award of the World Intellectual Property Organization for the best invention presented by the woman-inventor (Award certificate - Brussels Innova 2009 and WIPO Medal).
99mTc-Tektrotyd is a novel pharmaceutical form of dry kit for preparation of radiopharmaceutical based on synthetic peptide HYNIC-Tyr3-octreotide, an analog of naturally occurring regulatory peptide somatostatin. After intravenous injection, the radiolabelled preparation is taken up at the sites of increased expression of somatostatin receptors and this uptake can be visualized, allowing determination of character of pathology, evaluation of disease extent, the choice of the patient individual treatment and further evaluation of progress in therapy. Hence, it plays important role in the management of patients in oncology.

| 5th EMIM’10 - scientific and organizational success! |
 EMIM’10 (European Molecular Imaging Meeting 2010) was held in Warsaw Poland on May 26-29, 2010. EMIM’10 was the 5th conference organized by the European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI). ESMI as the society is gathering representatives of various disciplines, the program of EMIM’10 reflected this multidisciplinary character, from fundamental research in biology to clinical applications with newest developments in technology and instrumentation. The following European networks and organizations contributed also to the meeting program: Diagnostic Molecular Imaging (DiMI), Clinigene, COST Actions D38 and BM0607 as well as the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM). |
